Florida Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp (JD 87) to Speak at Fall 2007 Commencement Ceremony

Jeff Kottkamp Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp, a 1987 UF Law graduate, will address Fall 2007 graduates at the University of Florida Levin College of Law’s commencement at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Before becoming an elected official, Kottkamp served as a law clerk for two U.S. District Court Judges in Miami. He then returned home to Southwest Florida to practice law. Kottkamp first ran for public office in 2000, when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. He was subsequently re-elected in 2002 and 2004. One of the most important pieces of legislation that Kottkamp sponsored during his service in the legislature was the Marvin Davies Civil Rights Act of 2003.The bill provided the Attorney General’s office with the authority to take action when a “pattern or practice” of discrimination has occurred. He also sponsored numerous pieces of legislation to reduce taxes, including the repeal of the Intangibles Tax, and served as Co-Chair of the Taxpayer Protection Caucus. Students and faculty are asked to arrive at 1:15 p.m. The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes to two hours. There will be a reception to follow at the Levin College of Law Marcia Schott Courtyard. Parking will be in the lot directly in front of the Phillips Center for Performing Arts as well as the parking garage in the same complex.
