Prospective Members

New Jessup members are chosen annually. Approximately fifteen to twenty member candidates are initially selected late in the spring semester. During the following fall semester, the selected member candidates will participate in the Jessup course, which serves as an extended try-out process. In addition to attending weekly meetings, the member candidates will write a written brief (or memorial) and participate in an oral try-out. Five Competition Members are selected to represent the University of Florida in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition at the Super-Regional level based on their written and oral performance.

Prospective members do not need to possess previous international law experience. However, successful candidates display an interest in international law and exhibit a combination of strong oral advocacy and persuasive writing skills. Other factors considered in the selection process include commitment, timeliness, enthusiasm, and decorum.
