Those applicants who have been most successful in the application process have consistently earned strong grades in academically rigorous high school courses relative to their high school curriculum. In this, the type of courses (advanced, honors, AP, IB) a student has chosen is important. Applicants are encouraged to go beyond the minimum graduation requirements for their school and take advantage of the full range of courses offered. Depending on the applicant's desired major, the Committee will be considering specific coursework. The most competitive applicants will have completed 4 years of English, math and science in addition to foreign language, history, social sciences and the arts.
We do not have minimum score requirements; however, those applicants who have been most successful in our admissions process have earned highly competitive scores on the SAT and/or the ACT exams. Northeastern considers the writing portion of the SAT/ACT exams in our admission decisions. International student applications are reviewed considering their performance in their particular academic environments. As a result, SAT or ACT scores are not required for international applicants. However, applicants who attend a high school in the U.S., who will graduate from an international school that follows the U.S. High School curriculum, or who are student-athletes who must meet NCAA eligibility requirements, are required to submit their official SAT or ACT scores.
Recommendations from guidance counselors and teachers help us learn more about the applicant's academic and personal accomplishments, academic promise, and character. We are interested in enrolling students who will be good citizens in the Northeastern and Boston community.
Transfer applicants are defined as students that have attempted at least 12 semester hours of credit (or the equivalent in quarter hours or units) after high school graduation. Transfer students are required to apply to a specific college and major. *Transfer students cannot apply to the following majors:
Our most successful transfer applicants have earned a cumulative grade point of 3.3 or higher. Our review process is selective and personal. Each year, we receive more than 2,500 transfer applications for 550 places. We understand that transfer students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and therefore, we consider the following factors as well:
All applicants are required to submit a statement (250 word minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
We require one recommendation letter from an academic advisor, professor or employer to help us learn more about you as a student. We are looking for students who are responsible, independent, good citizens, self-aware, and active participants in their education.
SAT and/or ACT scores are required if a student has completed fewer than 24 semester hours of college-level credit.
Please note. We encourage you to submit your transfer application and supporting documents at your earliest convenience. The admission committee releases decisions on a rolling basis 2-4 weeks after completion.
An international student is defined by his/her non-immigrant visa status. Northeastern also enrolls many dual citizens and "third-culture" students who further enhance the intercultural dynamic of our University.
