Service learning is a natural fit for students who are pursuing careers in what are often referred to as the "helping professions." Through service learning, students in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences help the larger community while improving individual skills, health care teamwork, knowledge, and social awareness.

Service learning courses, co-ops, internships, and research projects engage Bouvé students in community service activities and service projects, often in collaboration with our faculty. For example, students and faculty have volunteered as aids and trainers at special summer camps for children with asthma.

Bouvé's Health in Motion van, which brings together a diverse group of students from several disciplines to offer health information, vaccinations, and screenings to underserved residents of Boston neighborhoods, is just one example of service learning as a teamwork exercise.

Courses in the college also enable students to work with faculty members to develop their own service projects. Throughout the project, students gain insight through formal, structured reflection, and the related class work is a direct reflection of the service.
