Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University

Health Sciences

BS/MPH

Overview

The Department of Health Sciences offers a combined undergraduate BS in Health Science and a Master of Public Health in Urban Health. This program allows up to 5 students each year to complete both degrees in a shorter amount of time than it would take to do each program separately.

Admission and Application

Interested students should work with their undergraduate academic advisor early in their academic career to discuss the program. Students will apply in the spring of their Junior year. The application deadline is March 15th and admission decisions are made by May 1st. Applicants will be considered by the MPH Admissions Committee, which also reviews regular MPH applications.

Requirements to be considered for admission include:

  1. Official Northeastern University transcript
  2. Three letters of recommendation including:
    • A faculty member in a public health related discipline
    • A second academic faculty member
    • A professional reference from a public health experience (co-op, internship, volunteer, other work experience)
  3. Personal goal statement addressing:
    • What are your current public health related career goals?
    • How will a Master of Public Health degree in Urban Health help you attain your career goals?
  4. An in-person interview

Curriculum

Students in the combined degree program will meet the core curriculum requirements for a BS and an MPH degree. Fifteen credits of the MPH degree are taken during the final undergraduate year in order to decrease tuition costs and duration of study. The program may be completed in three ways:

  • Five years; no co-op
  • Five years; 1 co-op
  • Six years; 2 co-ops
