Overview

The Occupational Ergonomics and Health program incorporates Northeastern University’s unique experiential learning approaches by immersing students in real work scenarios and case studies.   Based in public health approaches applied to the community of work places, students will complete projects both individually and in teams to develop skills to administer comprehensive and integrated programs for the workplace.  This is the only degree program that combines ergonomics and health wellness programs.

The 21st century workplace demands an interprofessional approach to reach across organizational boundaries to ensure health and safety values in the workplace are uniform and consistent to most effectively impact worker health.  Bouvé College of Health Sciences’ unique interprofessional approach to health care will ensure students develop skills to meet this need.

Curriculum

Our Graduate Program requires 32 semester hours of coursework and a 4 semester hour capstone project.  The program can be completed within 12 months for full-time students and within 36 months for part time students.

Experiential Learning

Students will have the opportunity to leverage Northeastern University’s unique cooperative experiential learning program as well as to engage in a capstone project related to one of many funded research projects within the department and across the college and university.

Research

Faculty within the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences engage in novel interventions, both clinically and through research endeavors to promote worker wellness.  These activities include: health screening programs, wellness interventions and analysis of data related to worker health outcomes.

Post-Graduation

Graduates of the program are expected to fufill positions in organizations seeking to promote worker health through integrated approaches of ergonomics and wellness. With the changing nature of work and health care, organizations are building and expanding their primary prevention efforts for workers in the workplace. Such organiztions need leaders to meet these challenges creating a culture of health and safety for their employees.
