What is the LaCLA Scholarship?

The LaCLA (La Comunidad Latina en Acción) Scholarship was established in 1993 by a group of Latino/a students at Northeastern University as a way to increase the retention of Latino/a students at the university. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage academic excellence of students and promote community service on campus and in Greater Boston. The scholarship is a tuition only award given annually to eight students. Awards are annually renewable for scholars who maintain a 3.0 GPA/QPA, submit FASFA annually, and satisfactorily complete the required 200 hours of community service, under the guidance of the Latino/a Student Cultural Center and the LaCLA Chair and Committee.

Who is eligible?

Any full-time, day undergraduate Northeastern University student who is currently enrolled in a Bachelors program and has been at the University for at least one semester is eligible to apply for the LaCLA Scholarship. Along with this basic qualification, a student applying for this scholarship must also:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident
  2. Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA)
  3. Demonstrate a history of community service
  4. Have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 3.3
  5. Demonstrate Financial Need

When can I apply?

The LaCLA Scholarship application is available annually after November 30. Applications are due February 24 (if this day falls on a holiday or weekend, then the due date will be the first following business day).

How can I apply?

The LaCLA Scholarship application can be either picked up at the Latino/a Student Cultural Center or found digitally on this page. Incomplete applications will not be
considered. Original documents with original signatures will only be accepted via mail.
