Visiting Researchers
Research Based Visits
The Marine Science Center is happy to share our grounds with outside researchers who wish to conduct single or multi-day marine research visits. If you wish to visit the MSC to conduct research please click the above “Facility Protocols & Forms” link and select the Registration Packet from the list. The Registration Packet will outline a few of the MSC regulations, highlight approved areas, provide the required paperwork to request such a visit and outline any applicable fees. Please keep in mind that all research request and snorkeling and/or scuba diving activities must be approved by the Laboratory Manager and Director of the MSC prior to commencement. Removal of living organisms from the MSC is not allowed unless otherwise approved.
Filtered Sea Water Collection
The Marine Science Center utilizes a seawater system to provide filtered seawater to our tanks and aquariums. We are happy to allow researchers and/or their students to come and collect filtered seawater for their own use.If you wish to collect filtered seawater please click the above “Facility Protocols & Forms” link and fill out a Visitation Request form and submit it to the Laboratory Manager by email, fax, or mail. Please be as detailed as possible when completing the form regarding the quantity and frequency desired. Once your request has been submitted you will be contacted to confirm your intended date of use. Please be aware that those wishing to collect filtered seawater are required to bring their own collection containers. Additionally we recommend contacting the Laboratory Manager on the morning of your visit to ensure that the system is functioning to full capacity as the weather can sometimes affect the flow.
Researchers in Residence
The MSC welcomes research conducted on site by those interested in either short or long-term projects. To conduct such a project at the MSC please visit the Facility Protocols and Forms page and complete a Visitation Request form. Please be as detailed as possible regarding your space and equipment needs and submit the form via fax, email or mail to the Laboratory Manager. You will be contacted shortly thereafter by both the Administrative Officer and the Laboratory Manager to discuss housing needs, fees and project details so we may assess the request fully. Projects such as these are subject to both laboratory and field space availability and require a great deal of preparation therefore the Marine Science Center should be contacted well in advance of the desired start date.
