N.U.in England students will share common kitchens and cook meals for themselves. While it may be an initial adjustment for students, with a little perseverance, it can become a bonding experience for flatmates. As a former student advises:Cook in your flats as much as you can! Making big dinners with friends is a great learning experience, cost-efficient, and also a lot of fun! - Owen H., N.U.in England 2011
Our former students also have some recommendations for sticking to a budget when considering meals. Here is what they had to say:
- Sainsbury’s and Tesco are less expensive options for groceries
- Students should cook together – it is inexpensive and a good bonding experience
- The Sandwich Shop (on Gloucester Rd) has ₤3 sandwiches (with a discount card)
- Many coffee shops on Gloucester Rd offer “deals” after 6pm on pastries, groceries, etc.
Be sure to also check out FIE’s London Facebook Group, which can help students plan low-budget outings for the days when they do not want to cook at home.
