Police Officer

  • General Statement of Duties:

    Patrols university buildings and grounds to enforce the General Laws of the Commonwealth in accordance with Chapter 22C §63 and the regulations of the university and to protect and safeguard the property of the institution.
  • Education, Experience and Training

    Completion of a full-time municipal or Massachusetts Special State Police recruit-training academy required. Previous police experience and/or related college degree preferred.
  • Minimum Qualifications/Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

    Knowledge of police practices and investigative procedures; knowledge of the criminal laws and court procedures; ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of actions to handle them. Strong ability in written and oral expression; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in their work.
  • Legal Requirements

    Appointees to this position must receive and retain authority as "Special Police Officer" in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 22C §63. Appointees to this position must also possess and retain a valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Appointees must receive and retain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
  • Special Requirements

    Appointees to this position must successfully complete a probationary period of one year. Permanent appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a basic police-training program approved by the director. Appointees must obtain certification as a Massachusetts Registered Emergency Medical Technician during the probationary period and retain registration. Appointees must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Mental and Physical Requirements

    Appointees to this position must successfully pass such physical and psychological examinations and Drug Screening as may be prescribed by the Director.

Community Service Officer (Security)

  • General Statement of Duties

    Perform patrol, inspection and/or related protective service duties in support of the mission of the division to provide a comprehensive program of security, parking, fire safety and related public safety services to protect lives and safeguard the property of the university.
  • Minimum Qualifications Experience and Training

    High school diploma required. At least one year of experience in security or fire safety preferred. Strong ability in oral and written expression and comprehension and positive interpersonal communications skills are necessary. Must be able to follow orders and procedures, exercise discretion and good judgment, and act quickly in emergency situations. Must be willing to work flexible hours and days, including weekends and holidays.
  • Special Requirements

    Must successfully complete the following: a pre-employment personal background investigation; medical and/or psychological examinations prior to appointment and at least annually following appointment; training programs which may be prescribed for appointment or continuing employment.
