Reporting Domestic Abuse
If you have been assaulted or abused by a dating partner, roommate, or family member we hope you will contact us. If the assault happened on campus, NUPD will provide you with complete law enforcement services and counseling referrals. If the assault happened off campus, we will assist you in dealing with the police department with jurisdiction for that location while also providing you with counseling and access to other university resources. No one deserves to be beaten or threatened with harm.
Are you or a friend in immediate danger?
- Call (617) 373-3333 or 3333 from any campus phone or safety phone.
- Call 911 if you are off campus.
- Call the SafeLink toll-free hotline (877) 785-2020.
Consider ways to leave the present situation safely.
The police will assist you in obtaining an emergency protection order, valid until the next court business day.
Once the order has been issued, you will be given a copy and the police will attempt to serve a copy to the abuser. Remember to keep the order on you at all times.
Know your rights under Massachusetts General Laws (Chapter 209A).
Are you a victim of domestic abuse?
Has your spouse or former spouse, a household member or former household member, roommate, relative or minor child, the parent of your minor child, or anyone whom you have had a substantive dating relationship with physically or psychologically abused you?
Has an acquaintance placed you in fear of imminent serious physical harm or caused you to engage involuntarily in sexual relations by force, threat or duress?
If you find yourself answering yes to any of these questions, or know someone who is in danger, it is time to get help. No one deserves to be beaten or threatened with harm.
