Guide to locking & unlocking your bedroom door for students living in apartment-style accommodations*
If you are living in an apartment, you use your husky card to access your bedroom in the same way you access your apartment; however one option is to configure your bedroom door to remain locked or unlocked.
How to configure your bedroom door to remain UNLOCKED:
- Insert and remove your card and enter your PIN
- After you have entered your PIN and while solid green light is visible,
insert your card again - Green light will flicker and the door is now Unlocked
How to configure your bedroom door to RE-LOCK:
- Insert your card into the lock twice
- After the first insert, the green light will flicker
- After the second insert, a solid red light will appear, indicating the door is locked
- A valid insert and PIN is now required to open the door
*Please note: This can only be configured for bedrooms in apartment-style accommodations.

My card is not working, what do I do?
Visit your Residence Hall staff or stop by Speare Commons for assistance during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, page the RA on duty.
Why is it that I can swipe into the building at the proctor station but I cannot swipe into my room or vice versa?
This is because the system used at the proctor station is different than the one used for your room. If you are having a problem, contact your residence hall staff for assistance and indicate where you are not able to gain access.
I am locked out, what do I do?
Visit your Residence Director during regular business hours or page the RA on duty after regular business hours.
Where can I find Residence Hall Staff and RA contact information?
RA pager numbers are posted on the staff office door in your building or can be found online: Contact List
What if there is a mechanical problem with the lock?
Visit your Residence Hall staff during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, contact facilities at 617-373-2754.
I forgot my PIN, what do I do?
Visit your Residence Hall staff or stop by Speare Commons for assistance during regular business hours. After hours and on weekends, page the RA on duty.
What is a kiosk?
A kiosk is a stand-alone unit that allows you to update your card and change your PIN.

with in most residence
What do the different lighting sequences on my door indicate?
Light
What Light indicates
Solid Green and Red Simultaneously
Card has been approved: Proceed with entering your 4-digit PIN
Solid Green
The door is unlocked. You can enter the room.
Immediate Red
Card is not authorized for door, the user is not in the system, the
card is expired or has been voided: See staff for assistance.
Delayed Red
- Card is blank or damaged: See staff for assistance OR
- Card was inserted incorrectly: Properly re-insert OR
- Card was left in lock too long: Remove card and try again removing card more quickly OR
- The card reader on the door requires services or cleaning: Contact staff or facilities for assistance.
Solid Green with Flashing Red
Batteries low in lock: Call facilities @ 617.373.2754.
