Departmental Committees

    Staff Recruitment and Selection

    This committee is responsible for all aspects of recruitment and selection of professional, graduate, and para-professional staff members within Residential Life.  This includes planning, marketing, recruitment efforts, process development, application review, and the interview processes for all candidates.  The committee makes recommendations to the Associate Dean for Cultural, Residential and Spiritual Life and the Associate Director of Residential Life regarding hiring of candidates to fill all vacant positions.

    Staff Training and Development

    This committee is responsible for the development, execution and evaluation of the department’s training and development efforts This includes trainings for all residential life staff members through the year; planning and executing professional development events that will engage and benefit the all members of the Department of Residential Life; conducting a thorough review the professional staff manual and developing a set of professional staff competencies.  Lastly, this committee will be responsible for coordinating the end of semester gatherings that occur in December and May and provide recommendations for the Cornerstone Award.

    Academic Initiatives

    This committee is responsible for directing the Living Learning Communities (LINK) and the Faculty in Residence program.  The efforts of this committee will further the goals and learning outcomes of NU's Living Learning Programs and First and Sophomore Year Experiences.

    Housing Task Force

    The Housing Task Force is responsible for coordinating efforts and serving as the liaison between Housing Services and the Department of Residential Life. This includes the execution of the Housing Selection & Placement Process, Move-to-From Coordination and the facilitation of Room Change Requests.

    Sustainable Service

    The Sustainable Service Committee engages students, staff, and faculty with the Northeastern, Boston, and Global Communities through various service-learning projects.  This committee focuses on educating those members of the various opportunities to become a more sustainable campus through residence hall, departmental, and campus wide initiatives.

    Safe Zones

    The Safe Zone committee is a group of dedicated individuals who work to establish “safe zones" across the campus community. The program is designed to educate and train participants about assisting, advocating, supporting and celebrating the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community and their allies.

    The Safe Zone Committee is responsible for trainings that are conducted throughout the academic year and workshops in an effort to educate and train students and reduce homophobia and heterosexism on campus.

    UNITE (Unifying Northeastern Identities Through Education)

    Unifying Northeastern Identities Through Education (UNITE) is a comprehensive program sponsored by the Department of Residential Life that provides the campus community the opportunity to have open dialogue surrounding topics of diversity. UNITE strives to empower students to create a world of compassion, justice and equity for all persons, while increasing their awareness of personal responsibility to pass the same message along to others. This committee is responsible for coordinating and executing events throughout the academic year that support this Mission Statement.
