Resident Assistant Selection & Training Committee
This committee is responsible for all aspects of RA recruitment, selection, training and evaluation. This includes marketing the position, coordinating, planning and scheduling all information sessions, planning selection dates, and implementing the process, participation in the process itself, evaluation of candidates and evaluation of the process. In addition, this committee is responsible for all aspects of RA training and development. This includes the planning and implementation of all RA training (Fall, Spring and Summer),identification of topics for on-going training and staffing of, participation in, and attendance at, all sessions as well as evaluation of training.
Professional Staff Selection & Training Committee
This committee will be responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and development of professional staff members and will meet throughout the year, including summer. Recruitment: Create and maintain the professional staff selection portion of the Residential Life website; Use social media for branding and to push website, webinar, openings, etc. Selection: Review and score applications, conduct phone interviews; Coordinate on-campus interview process including apartment preparation, booking rooms, and inviting interviewers. Training: Provide new staff with internal orientation and onboarding and create training schedule and sessions for all staff, including the coordination of outside presenters; Review, edit and maintain the professional staff manuals. Development: Create a year-long professional and staff development schedule designed to meet the needs of the staff.
Living Learning Communities/First Year Experience (FYE)
Members of this committee will be responsible for strengthening and maintaining the LLC and FYE programs. The committee will develop new initiatives and programs for first year residents. The committee will also lead the LLC advisory board, help build and facilitate assessment projects and strengthen relationships with campus partners and liaisons. Another initiative the committee will be responsible for is to increase the awareness and importance of the program throughout campus and regionally/nationally.
Second Year Experience Committee (SYE)
This committee will work on providing comprehensive programs and resources targeted towards all Northeastern University sophomore students. The committee will work to maximize success during one’s sophomore year by providing customized support for academic achievement, setting career direction and life goals, and building important skills, such as stress and time management.
Housing Task Force
Members sit on the Housing Task Force and act as the liaison between Housing Services and Residential Life, namely for the Housing Selection and Placement Process.
Safe Zones (external committee through LGBTQA Resource Center)
The Safe Zone committee is a group of dedicated individuals who work to establish safe zones across the campus community. A Safe Zone is a state of mind and a physical space created by those who attend trainings, workshops etc. The program is designed to educate and train participants about assisting, advocating, supporting and celebrating the LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Asexual, and Ally community) community and their allies. The Safe Zone Committee does a number of things, including trainings that are conducted throughout the academic year, workshops and more.
This committee will provide a comprehensive program that provides the campus community the opportunity to have open dialogue surrounding topics of diversity. Members of this committee will be responsible for the development, execution and evaluation of the following: 1. Diversity trainings for all residential life staff members through the year, including professional staff and student staff; 2. Planning and executing diversity related professional development events that will engage and benefit all the members of the Department of Residential Life; 3. Be a resource to RA’s in planning diversity programs including collaborating with them on events.
