Received a lottery number

If you are offered a lottery number you can only secure your space by depositing through your MyNEU portal prior to Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Noon. If you wish to secure housing for Spring 2016, you can also make a deposit at this time. Please note, although it is not required, space will become limited for Spring 2016. When you place a deposit please be aware of the cancellation schedule as you will be held to it once you place a deposit for any semester.

Deposit Instructions: To deposit, log onto the myNEU Portal and click on NUPay. At the top of your screen, click on Make Payment and select Undergraduate Fall 2015 Dorm Deposit.

The housing deposits are $200 for each semester. Students must deposit for each semester in which they wish to live on campus during the 2015-2016 academic year. Please note that if you contract with an outside vendor to pay University bills (i.e., AMS Payment Plan), this payment plan will not cover housing deposits, so you will be responsible for paying these deposits for the semesters you request.

Deposits must be paid and cannot be added to a bill.

Students who are in the University Scholars program are guaranteed housing, however they must deposit or request a deposit waiver by the 2/17/15 deadline to secure a space in housing for the 2015-2016 academic year. Student whose scholarship covers housing costs, if you received a lottery number, you must deposit or request a deposit waiver by the 2/17/15 deadline to secure a space in housing for the 2015-2016 academic year. You can request a deposit waiver by emailing housing@neu.edu your name, NUID number, the semester(s) you wish to have waived, and the name of your scholarship.

Received a waitlist number

If you received a waitlist number you are not eligible to deposit for the Fall 2015 semester at this time and you are not guaranteed housing. If you have received a wait list number, you will receive information in the notification mailing about the wait list process and off-campus housing alternatives.

We are not currently on a waitlist for the Summer I 2015, Summer II 2015, or Spring 2016 semesters. If you wish to live on campus during any of those semesters you just need to place a deposit through your MyNEU portal.

The Selection Process

In order to be a part of the selection process for the Fall 2015 semester, you must have a lottery number and a deposit on file for the Fall 2015 semester. You will have the opportunity to select housing during either group or general selection time. In an effort to keep roommate sets together, we are offering students the opportunity to fill apartments (studio single to 6-person apartment) during "Fill Apartments" selection. Individual or smaller roommate sets will particiate in "General" selection or PAWS (Placement Assistance With Staff).

If you have a group of students you intend to live with, here is what you should do step by step:

  1. Assemble the lottery information for all students in the group

  • Lottery Number

  • Scheduled Selection Time

  • Roommate Registration Code

  • Roommate Password

  1. Figure out who has the best lottery number and selection date and time

  2. Login to Housing Online up to 5 days prior to that date and time to view vacancies

  3. Plan to fill an entire apartment as you are required to completely fill an apartment to select it on the first selection night for your lottery number

  4. Plan on your first three choices as follows:

  • 100% best case scenario of where you want to live

  • 50% best case scenario of where you want to live

  • Something that you can make work with all or parts of your original group

  • A plan of what you would like to do if you cannot live with your roommate choices

Whoever has the best lottery number (closest to 1) will be the person selecting for the group. Make sure this person knows how the group wants to be placed!

If you want to select housing on your own, here is what you should do step by step:

  1. Figure out what your selection time is based on your lottery number

  2. Login to Housing Online up to 5 days prior to that date and time to view vacancies

  3. Login on your selection day at your selection time and pick from whatever is available or use PAWS

PAWS – Placement Assistance with Staff

´╗┐For students who do not like what is available during their selection time, we offer PAWS. This is a routine part of our assignment process and it is important to remember that you are still guaranteed housing (if you received a lottery number and placed a deposit) and you will receive an assignment in an upperclass building. Only one form is needed per group if you are requesting housing with a group of friends. Once you submit your placement form and we assign you, we will notify you when your assignment is available. Please be patient and check your myNEU e-mail regularly for updates as your assignment could be available anytime from May-August.

Wondering how your lottery number has been assigned to you?
Current second, third and fourth year students are randomly selected to receive either a lottery number or a wait list number. If you apply with a mutual roommate set, all members of the group will receive an individual lottery number OR all will receive an individual wait list number. Lottery numbers are randomly computer generated based on year of attendance.  Randomly selected current 4th+ year students will receive the "best" lottery numbers, followed by current 3rd years, and current 2nd years.

Unsure about your 2015-2016 plans regarding housing or co-op or study abroad?
If you are unsure as to whether or not you will be living on campus for Fall 2015, Housing & Residential Life recommends that you apply and deposit anyway. Fall housing is limited and you may not be guaranteed a space if you do not apply and deposit on time. If you are unsure of your co-op or study abroad plans for next year, apply for all semesters for which you may require housing.  You will not be penalized if you leave the Boston area (beyond Rt. 128) for co-op for a specific term as long as you cancel in writing and submit documentation from your co-op advisor. If you are accepted into a study abroad you will just need your study abroad advisor to email us confirmation when canceling your housing. Please note if you do deposit, you are held to the cancellation schedule if you do decide to cancel. If your plans change you can cancel your housing with no penalty by May 15, 2015.

Have a hold on your account?
Students who currently have a financial block, and/or are not in good standing with the University, will not be permitted to participate in the Room Selection Process.  Stop by Student Accounts in 120 Hayden Hall to clear any blocks so that you may participate.  If you are unable to clear your block, please contact Housing & Residential Life for assistance.
