Northeastern University

Experiential learning, anchored by our signature cooperative education program, lies at the heart of a Northeastern education. We are a world leader in integrating classroom study with unique experiential opportunities — professional work, research, study, and service — around the globe. Our students gain an unmatched depth of global knowledge and help shape the world in 91 countries and 171 international cities on every continent.

At the core of this global learning approach is international co-op, which connects students to six-month opportunities for work, research, or service in 70 countries. Our Presidential Global Scholars initiative awards hundreds of competitive grants each year to help outstanding students gain an international co-op experience.

In addition to traditional study abroad, Northeastern’s Office of International Study Programs also offers Dialogue of Civilizations, a popular curriculum-based program featuring five-week, faculty-led trips to countries and cultures around the world.

Other global learning experiences tied to areas of study include our top-ranked Bachelor of Science in International Business program, which combines six months of study abroad with a six-month international co-op; the Social Enterprise Institute, which enables students to promote small-business entrepreneurship and microfinance in developing countries; and Engineers Without Borders, a global service program for engineering students interested in designing and building clean water systems for villages in Central America and Africa.

The University's World Languages Center offers courses and programs in 13 languages in response to the growing student demand for languages.
