Professor of Military Science

Lieutenant Colonel Jason J. Nowak is the Professor of Military Science and Chair of the Department of Military Science at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile.

Lieutenant Colonel Nowak is a basic branch Field Artillery (branch detailed Quartermaster) Officer commissioned through the State University of New York (S.U.N.Y.) College at Fredonia, New York. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1991.

Upon completion of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak served as a Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer for C Battery and Service Battery, 6/1 Field Artillery Battalion in Vilseck, Germany. Following completion of the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course and the Combined Arms Service and Staff School, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak served as an Operations, Maintenance and Property Book Officer for Combat Equipment Group Europe in Germany, Belgium and Bosnia; and as the Army Atlantic (ARLANT) Plans and Operations Officer for the Special Operations Support Command (SOSCOM), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In November 1998, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak voluntarily separated from the Army to obtain his Federal Securities License and worked as a Financial Advisor and Planner for AXA Advisors, LLC in Akron, Ohio. Following the tragic events of 9/11, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak volunteered to return to active duty and service with the US Army.

In March 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak was assigned to Germany and immediately deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I where he served as the Commander, 26th Quartermaster Supply Company (DS) followed by a second deployment to Iraq in 2005 as the Secretary General Staff, 3d Corps Support Command (COSCOM).

Prior to assuming his current duties at USA, Lieutenant Colonel Nowak was assigned as the S-4 to the 43d Sustainment Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado followed by service as the Executive Officer (XO) of the 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) in 2009.

Lieutenant Colonel Nowak is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Touro University.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (4OLC), the NATO Medal (1OLC), the Meritorious Unit Commendation (3OLC), the Parachutist Badge and the Parachute Rigger Badge.

Lieutenant Colonel Nowak and his wife Michelle have one son and a dog.
