The College of Education is organized into three departments: Health, Physical Education and Leisure Studies (HPELS), Leadership and Teacher Education (LTE), and Professional Studies (PS). HPELS is located in the HPE Building and LTE and PS are located in University Commons.

The HPELS Department offers the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Education degrees leading to certification in Physical Education (P-12) and Health Education (6-12). The department offers the Master of Science degree in Physical Education with emphases in Exercise Science and Health Education. Additionally, the department offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Leisure Studies with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation. The department also provides a basic physical activity program for all university students through courses in physical fitness, lifetime sports, dance, and martial arts.

The LTE Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree leading to Alabama Class B Certification in the following areas: Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education. The department offers the Masters of Education degree leading to Alabama Class A certification in the following areas: Educational Leadership, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Reading Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education. The department also offers the Instructional Specialist degree leading to Alabama Class AA certification in Educational Leadership, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Teacher Leader and Special Education.

The PS Department offers the Master of Education degree in Educational Media, and in Counselor Education in an educational setting leading to certification in School Counseling, and the Master of Science degree in Counselor Education with emphases in Community Counseling. The department also offers the Masters of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Instructional Design and Development.
