Dear Alumni,
Dr. Steadman Dean of the College of Engineering
My name is Allie Tucker and I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in the spring of 2009. I became a part of the College of Engineering(COE) Alumni Society in the fall of 2009 and was elected President the following May. My goals as President have been to reconnect the alumni with their Alma Mater, develop a network between the alumni and the current generation of engineering students, and to support the COE students through the Engineering Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship fund.
In its short lifetime, the COE Alumni Society has started several new traditions. The first being the Annual Alumni and Student Golf Tournament that is held every spring. The Golf Tournament has been extremely successful and just this past year, we raised $3,500 for the Engineering Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship fund. Planning for the 5th Tournament is currently underway. Another great tradition was started in the fall of 2009 when the COE Alumni Society decided to have a presence at the Jaguars football games. It was decided to have our own tailgating location, and this year we were granted a spot directly across from Jaguar Prowl. From this venue, we were able to continue our Alumni/Student Ribs Cook-off (with the Alumni declaring victory for 2010!) and also begin another great tradition. This year saw the first ever public Jaguar Tailgating Cook-off. Although small this year, the Tailgating Cook-off is expected to grow into an annual event that will be an excellent fundraiser for the endowment scholarship.
I encourage each of you to participate in our upcoming events. With your help, we can continue to contribute to the success of the College of Engineering and carry our traditions through the years. I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Allie Tucker
College of Engineering Alumni Society President
