Purpose: The primary purpose of the Fund will be to provide short-term start-up financial support for highly meritorious cancer-related research at USA with high potential to achieve extramural grant support from NIH or other qualifying extramural funding agencies.
Awards: Awards of up to $60,000 each will be provided to each selected project/principal investigator.
Application and Award Process: Applications will be accepted semi-annually, with June 15, 2011 being the first due date deadline and May 1, 2012 being the second due date deadline. Proposals/investigators will be evaluated by the Peer Review Committee, and consensus recommendations forwarded to the Executive Administrator and Advisory Council. Final recommendations and priorities will be forwarded from the Executive Administrator to the MCI Director, who will serve as approval authority for disbursements from the Fund from the selected projects/investigators.
Financial Report: A financial report on each awarded project/investigator will be required at the end of each year of support. Any funds not used by the end of the grant cycle will be returned to the Fund.
