Dr. Jim Connors, assistant professor of earth sciences and adviser to the Geology Club, works with geology students Mary Hangen, left, and Ron Schindler to assemble one of the 500 new “Jag Bikes” that USA students began using this fall. Student volunteers from geology, the Student Sustainability Council, the Honors Program and TKE fraternity assembled the bikes. Jag Bikes joined the Jag Tran as another free and clean alternative to cars on the USA campus. The Jag Bike program supports environmental sustainability and student convenience by providing students with free-range access to hundreds of bicycles throughout the USA campus. Jag Bikes are the newest initiative in the University’s sustainability program, “Jag Smart,” which integrates the latest green principles in recycling, energy conservation, transportation, campus construction and campus life.
