Donald R. Epley, Ph.D., CCIM, MAI, is professor of marketing and e-commerce and the current holder of the distinguished professorship in real estate. He is the current director of the Mitchell College of Business Center For Real Estate Studies and Economic Development.

Teaching assignments have included either a chair or distinguished professorship at the University of Arkansas, Mississippi State University and Washington State University. He is a licensed real estate broker and a certified general appraiser. He holds the CCIM designation from the Commercial and Investment Real Estate Institute, and the MAI and SRA designations from The Appraisal Institute.

He has authored and coauthored eight textbooks over 25 years and approximately 90 referred journal articles. He was the editor of the Journal of Real Estate Research, served on the editorial board since its creation and was the guest editor for a special issue on mortgage markets. He was also the founding editor of the Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education.

His professional associations include a term as president of the American Real Estate Society and service on the board of directors.

He has been on several committees with The Appraisal Institute including Level Two Curriculum, Masters and Body of Knowledge.

He has been a member of the Body of Knowledge Committee of the CCIM Institute and has conducted several research projects as the educational consultant for the CCIM Educational Foundation.

In 1992, he was elected as a trustee to the Appraisal Foundation, Washington, and served a seven-year term. He was appointed to the Executive Committee, Nominating Committee and the Oversight Committee. He was chair of the Publications Committee that created the Professional Standards course that is now required by all real estate appraisers. He was the only academic representative serving as a trustee for three years. His research received three faculty awards at the University of Arkansas. He received the 1999 Washington State University Faculty Teaching Award from the Disabled Students Association. Funding support has been received from a number of sources including The Appraisal Institute, Chicago; CCIM Institute, Chicago; and the Appraisers Research Foundation, Houston.

In 1998, he was awarded an honorary CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute, Chicago, in recognition of his contributions to the commercial brokerage, investment and real estate education fields. It was the first award given by the Institute and the only one given that year.

The academic real estate community has benefited from his contributions through education found in his textbooks, his research in applied valuation that helps understand local markets and his editorial guidance through ARES publications.
