Advanced Emergency Nursing
(Family NP/Adult-Gerontological Acute Care Dual Role)

The Department of Health and Human Services has funded a $1.2 million proposal to provide a new BSN to DNP Accelerated Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AACNP) with Emergency Specialization program.

Graduates of this program will earn a DNP degree and be eligible to sit for dual certification exams - the FNP and the AACNP exams.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has set a 2015 date for full implementation of the DNP as the entry level for advanced practice.

Requirements for Admission

The requirements for admission to the DNP program are located on the DNP Home Page and in the University of South Alabama Undergraduate/Graduate Bulletin.

While Advanced Emergency Nursing (Family NP/Adult-Gerontological Acute Care) Dual Role DNP classes are taught online, all students enrolled in AHN 548 (first clinical course) in the fall of 2013, are required to attend a mandatory three (3) day orientation. The orientation will be held August 4-6, 2013. Check-in will begin on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Health Sciences Lobby and attendees will be dismissed at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Attendance is required and will allow for questions and interaction with course faculty. Various clinical skills workshops will be held during the orientation.
