University of South Alabama College of Nursing
Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner     Nurse and patient

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners provide psychiatric services to children, adolescents, adults as well as mature adults experiencing a continuum of psychiatric illnesses. The program prepares students to provide comprehensive psychiatric mental health care to those who are symptomatic in need of psychiatric services. Care continuum sites for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner practice includes ambulatory care settings, acute care, long-term care, and community health facilities.

Online learning eliminates travel requirements, and allows nurses to stay and work near their homes and families. While all Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner classes are online, The FPNP Track requires all students attend a 2-5 day on-campus psychiatric nurse practitioner student seminar while they are enrolled in CMN 548 and/or 549. Faculty will notify students of the dates and schedule. Attendance is required. During this period the student will participate in an in-depth seminar that will allow for questions and interaction with course faculty.

Our program is a Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program.  Students who enroll in to this program must be prepared to work with children, adolescents, and adults to ensure that they are proficiently trained to administer psychiatric care to all ages, gender, and culture. The completion of this program allows for the students to be eligible to take the Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FPNP) certification exam only.

2013 Seminar: August 14 through 15.
