Scholarships

Several scholarships are available to our students. Click on the department link below for specific information about each. These competitive scholarships are awarded annually to an eligible student in the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs. Individuals may apply to any or all of the scholarships listed below.

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

(Adult and Interdisciplinary degree programs)

Ed Bunnell Adult Degree Program Scholarship

The Ed Bunnell Scholarship is an endowed fund that was created to recognize the contributions of Dr. Ed Bunnell, the first Dean of the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs, toward promoting adult learning and continuing education at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Bunnell had a passion for helping hard-working, bright adult students achieve their educational goals. The scholarship is awarded each fall and spring semester to an Adult Degree Program student who has demonstrated persistence and academic achievement.

To qualify for the Ed Bunnell Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Declared major in the Interdisciplinary Studies Adult Degree Program;

2. Cumulative USA grade point average of 3.0 with a minimum of 12 semester hours completed at USA;

3. Completion of the AIS 101 or 301 foundation course.

To be considered for the Ed Bunnell Scholarship, students must submit the Ed Bunnell Scholarship Application along with an essay and letter of recommendation from a USA faculty member (see application for further details).

Scholarship application deadlines are as follows:
•  Fall semester: April 15
•  Spring semester: October 15

Interdisciplinary Endowed Scholarship

The Interdisciplinary Endowed Scholarship is an award to be given to an interdisciplinary studies major at the University of South
Alabama who demonstrates high academic achievement in Interdisciplinary Studies. Emphasis is on study abroad.

To qualify for the Interdisciplinary Endowed Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
1. Declared major in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program in School of Continuing Education
2. Plans to study abroad

To be considered for the Interdisciplinary Endowed Scholarship, students must submit the Interdisciplinary Endowed Scholarship Application.

Scholarship application deadlines are as follows:
• Fall semester: April 15
• Spring semester: October 15

Thomas Corcoran Scholarship in Interdisciplinary Studies Adult Degree Program

The Thomas Corcoran Endowed Scholarship in Interdisciplinary Studies Adult Degree Program is an award given to adult students who are attempting to obtain a college degree.

To qualify for the Thomas Corcoran Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
1. An adult student attempting to obtain a college degree
2. Maintain a minimum of 3.0 or greater GPA
3. Registered for a minimum of ½ course load

Odyssey USA

The ODYSSEY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND provides funding of two annual tuition awards to continuing students, whose education has been interrupted and/or who has overcome obstacles in pursuing an education. One award is to be made to a student enrolled in the Adult Degree Program within the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs.

To be eligible, students must maintain a GPA of 2.5, provide a written essay regarding their need to the Scholarship Committee. To apply, students must complete the scholarship application, provide a short essay and two letters of recommendation. Students will need a transcript of all college coursework up to the date of application (PAWS transcript is acceptable).

CONTINUING EDUCATION

McCall Paralegal Scholarship

The Bruce McCall Endowed Memorial Scholarship for Paralegal Studies was established to assist students enrolled in the USA Special Courses Paralegal Studies Certificate Program. This annually awarded scholarship is an excellent opportunity for students demonstrating high academic achievement in this program to receive financial assistance toward completing program course work

Taylor Martino Endowed Scholarship in Paralegal Studies

The Taylor Martino Endowed Scholarship in Paralegal Studies was created through a generous contribution of the legal firm Taylor Martino. This scholarship will be awarded to students from Mobile and surrounding counties who demonstrate high academic achievement in previous coursework and an interest in the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program. Only students entering the Paralegal Studies Certificate program may apply for this scholarship and are required to apply to the certificate program before submitting the scholarship application.

Nowlin Caldwell Scholarship

The Nowlin Caldwell Scholarship is awarded annually to a student with a declared major in the College of Arts & Sciences to fund overseas travel.
