Mitchell College of Business Library Group Study Rooms (111–115) Reservation Guidelines

The Mitchell College of Business Library offers five private study rooms available for groups of two to six people. These rooms provide the perfect place to discuss, conduct research and organize presentations for group projects.

Each study room is furnished with a dry erase board, with dry erase markers and erasers upon request. A fully-networked wireless device facilitates the use of laptop computers to access library databases and campus network resources. There's also a network connection and several electrical outlets.

Students who are currently enrolled in business courses, as well as faculty and staff who are affiliated with the Mitchell College of Business, may reserve group study rooms on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can reserve a room up to one week in advance at the MCOB Library Service Desk or by phone at 251-414-8067.

  • Unless previously reserved, all group study rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Same-day phone reservations will be made on a case-by-case basis depending on the demand.
  • Group study rooms may only be reserved for groups of two to six people.
  • Individuals who are registered with Special Student Services (Student Center Room 270, 460-7212) and require the use of a group study room for individual use may reserve group study rooms after providing a certification of disability letter for the library to keep on file.
  • Customers may be asked to supply a University of South Alabama ID card or Jag Number in order to make reservations.
  • Group study rooms may be reserved for up to a 3-hour block "per group" with no renewals.
  • Individuals reserving a group study room have 15 minutes following the reserved time to occupy the room. If the room remains unoccupied, the library may reassign the room.
  • Group study rooms are not soundproof, so group conversations need to be kept at a normal sound level. Cell phones and other multimedia devices should be muted or used with headphones.
  • Library staff reserves the right to enter group study rooms at any time and to remove individuals based on inappropriate conduct, including policies outlined in the Lowdown.
  • The person who makes the reservation assumes responsibility for the condition of the room and the conduct of the other group members. Eating, smoking and disruptive behavior are prohibited. Any damage should be reported immediately to the Service Desk.
  • The library staff reserves the right to remove belongings and reassign the room if it's left empty for more than 15 minutes.
  • The library cannot be held responsible for unattended belongings.
  • Library materials or personal belongings should not be left in the study room. Any belongings left unattended will be removed and held at the Service Desk for up to 30 days.
  • Failure to follow library policies/guidelines may result in the loss of group study room privileges.

Note: Business College administration reserves the right to override/cancel previous reservations as needed to schedule the group study rooms for job interviews or other administrative purposes. If reservations are cancelled, users will be notified as soon as possible.
