About the Center
In 2003, the University of South Alabama established a research center focusing on the engineering of coastal highways. The center is funded by the Federal Highway Administration to research the design and planning of roadways that are exposed to the wave, water level, and sand transport climate that is unique to the coast.
The Coastal Transportation Engineering Research and Education Center is meeting a national need with this research because . . .
. . . demand for these roads is increasing,
. . . in areas with unique forces
. . . and unique environmental challenges.
