see momentum.

It's defined as "force" or "speed of movement."

But momentum is also a feeling. It’s progress that seems inevitable.

Unstoppable. It’s a sense of something powerful that is so strong that you can see it … feel it … touch it.

It's tangible

You want to be part of it

It's what you will see every day - in so many ways - at the University of Kentucky.

You can measure it in cranes ― they signify hundreds of millions of dollars in construction occurring right now in the heart of the UK campus.

Over the next several years, up to 9,000 new residence hall beds ― some $500 million worth ― are being constructed on campus, underscoring an unwavering commitment to student learning and living.

Another $275 million is being spent to renovate, expand and build new classroom and research space: a new Gatton College of Business and Economics, a state-of-the-art Science and Academic Building and a renovated Commonwealth Football Stadium.

You can see it in the quality of our students and commitment to academics.

We are among the Top 15 institutions in the country for the number of National Merit Finalists on our campus. We are welcoming record numbers of students to our Honors Program and top scholarship initiatives. We have a new undergraduate core curriculum that is receiving national accolades for its focus on innovation and creativity.

You will see it in our faculty and staff, whose discoveries and commitment to care are transforming communities and changing lives.

UK is one of only 22 institutions in the entire country to receive federal designations for the work we do in Alzheimer’s, cancer research and care and how we take discoveries from the lab into places where they can do the most good.

Walk 10 minutes in any direction and a student can encounter a world-class poet. A world-renowned physician or clinician. An architect re-designing a city. A pharmaceutical scientist developing new life-saving drugs. An artist or musician who performs in national opera companies or on Broadway.

At UK, you can feel it. You can see it. You can be part of it.
