UK Staff Present at EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative

Doyle Friskney, UKIT Chief Technology Officer, and Stacey Greenwell, UK Libraries Associate Dean, Academic Affairs and Research, recently spoke at the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) 2011 Annual Meeting. The meeting, titled "Educating in the Open: Philosophies, Innovations, and Stories," explored the theme of openness.

Doyle and Stacey presented a session titled "Transformation: The 2020 Model for Academic Technologies and Collaborative Learning Communities." They discussed how today's academic support model will require changes in the next decade. Libraries and information technology will need to develop a ubiquitous support service for faculty and students. Support services in the future must accommodate the transition to digital resources available on campus and from the Web 2.0 cloud vendor community. The traditional branch library and student lab will need to be redesigned to offer solutions that address the demand for common spaces to access information collaboratively.  The change will be challenged by traditional practices, and academic support must transcend former practices to encourage relevancy.
