UK Participates in eTextbook Pilot

POSTED: OCTOBER 5, 2012

This fall, more than 850 students in three introductory level courses received free textbooks thanks to UK's participation in a multi-institution digital textbook pilot study designed by EDUCAUSE and Internet2 (I2). The pilot, which uses textbooks published by McGraw-Hill and viewed using CourseLoad, a collaborative, multi-platform compatible e-reader, was sponsored by the Office of the Provost and is being conducted by UKIT in partnership with the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching and the UK Libraries.

Along with providing instructors and students with a chance to test exciting new educational technology, this pilot helps UK gather feedback about the benefits and drawbacks of using etextbooks in the classroom and evaluate a digital distribution model. By joining with EDUCAUSE and I2, UK can actively collaborate with 25 other participating pilot universities and build on previous studies done by Indiana University and other pilot institutions.
