I'd definitely recommend that students participate in the [Cooperative Education and Internship] Program and get in as early as possible. Engineering is such a broad characterization. You get a good feel for what's actually going on. And you get a better feel for what you want to do when you get out of school so you can set your educational goals early. — Computer Engineering major

At first I was a little intimidated. After all, Raytheon is a huge company. But I was assigned a mentor, a senior engineer, and he was more than helpful in answering my questions no matter what level. For one assignment, I worked on a computer model simulation, taking specifications of a circuit and assembling it in the computer program. My task was to analyze how the circuits would work when they were actually built or to compare them to working circuits to see if they were working the same. Ideally they should be. If not, I had to track down what was wrong, what was different. Another assignment was to help one of the engineers working on the design of a digital power amplifier/modulator. Our challenge was to determine why the low pass filter in his power amplifier was not attenuating at the specified frequency. I designed a mathematical model of the system's desired response characteristic. My next major assignment was to develop a simulation of a three-phase power converter currently in use in a missile system. — Electrical Engineering major

When you get back into the classroom after a work session, you feel confident. You're more experienced. You've applied what the teachers are teaching. And no matter how small the point the teacher makes, you know from experience that you'll use the information. — Mechanical Engineering major
