Picture of Dr. Mark Russel Dr. Mark Russell, P.E., Lecturer in Construction, Department of Civil Engineering, University of New Mexico

Dr. Mark Russell, a professor at the University of New Mexico, and  has a diverse background in engineering and construction. After graduating from high school, Dr. Russell joined the Navy and subsequently attended the University of Central Florida, where he obtained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He went on to pursue an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Old Dominion University and an MBA from New Hampshire College. Dr. Russell worked for the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Corps for a number of years, garnering extensive experience in the construction industry. He retired from the Navy after 20 years, after which he took on a position with URS International, Inc. as a contract manager. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Design, Construction, and Planning from the University of Florida.  Dr. Russell’s research interests include sustainable construction and building rating systems. His emphasis includes analysis based on life cycle assessments with a particular interest in carbon foot-printing. At the University of New Mexico, he teaches Engineering Economy (CE 350) and Cost Estimating (CE 376).

Richard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Construction Science at the University of Oklahoma. His research interests include sustainable construction, building rating systems, effects of building rating systems on commercial real estate valuation, and construction job creation due to energy efficiency retrofits. He is the Instructor for the freshman course in Construction Materials. Richard holds his first Master’s degree in Real Estate and Urban Analysis and Bachelor’s degree from UF.
Professional work experience includes 8 years of commercial construction experience managing hospital, school, jail and courthouse projects, and 2 years of residential construction experience as the owner of a small contracting business. Currently, Richard teaches courses on green building and LEED to building industry professionals throughout Florida. Richard is a licensed Certified General Contractor and Real Estate Sales Person. Additionally, he is a U.S.G.B.C. LEED Accredited Professional (LEED – AP).

Lantz Holtzhower is currently a Ph.D. student and instructor in the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction. His interests include water conservation, rainwater harvesting, stormwater recycling, and overall sustainable water use within buildings. The current focus of his research is the implementation effects of low impact developments such as green roofs and constructed wetlands into the built environment. He holds a Master’s degree in Building Construction and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, both from the University of Florida. Lantz’s 9 years of professional construction experience includes work as project manager for construction managers, an electrical contractor and a fire protection contractor. The wide variety of projects includes a flagship institutional project, several municipal projects, K12 projects, office buildings, residential amenities and agricultural storage warehouses. He is a licensed Certified Building Contractor in the State of Florida and a member of the USGBC. Lantz lives in Northwest Gainesville with his wife, Maia, and their two daughters.
