Resolving Virus Infections

Policies

  • Your internet access is limited to only a few campus websites.
  • Second Violation can not submit Resident Self Scan.
  • All devices must be scanned.
  • Removal from quarantine is not an automatic process and will take some time to complete.
  • Any logs submitted after 5pm Monday through Friday will be processed the following business day.

First Violation

Can complete either a Resident Self Scan (Windows or Mac) or Tech Scan

Tech Scan

  1. Visit the DHNet@Home Help Desk at Beaty Tower East with your device(s).
  2. Bring all power cables with you and your Gator 1 ID.
  3. Help Desk staff will submitted scans on your behalf.
  • Computers can be left at the Help Desk while the scans are being performed.

Resident Self Scan Windows

Avast!

  1. In Setting, update the virus definitions
  2. Click on Protection,  then Antivirus and select Full System Scan
  3. If the scan finishes and viruses are found select Delete in the drop down box then hit apply.  Re-run Full System Scan.
  4. Take Screenshots of updated virus definitions and the results of the Full System Scan.
    • This needs to include the time the scan ran and the number of files scanned, as well as a detailed report if one is provided.
    • Make sure to maximize the detailed report screen so we can see that action was taken on the items

Malwarebytes

  1. On the Dashboard page find and select Check for Updates.
  2. Then select to Scan Now when the scan is finished, elect to remove all found viruses.
  3. Export the log file to your desktop. If this log file has any items that say “delete on reboot” please re-scan and send in both logs.

Resident Self Scan Mac

Avast!

  1. Select Preferences in the Avast! application.
  2. Select Update. When the update finishes, a pop-up showing that Avast! is update to date will appear, Take a screenshot of this box.
  3. Perform a Full Scan and when the scan is finished, elect to remove all found viruses.
  4. Take a Screenshot showing a Full Scan has been performed.

Second Violation

Second Violation can only complete Tech Scan

Tech Scan

  1. Visit the DHNet@Home Help Desk at Beaty Tower East with your device(s).
