The Florida Applied Research Enterprise (FLARE) is a component of FLEXStation that provides avenues to applied research and development services to Florida industries and citizens. By facilitating product and project development and technology commercialization, FLARE can strengthen business development and help create leverage to secure federal funding.
Through world-class expertise and state of the art facilities, the University of Florida can provide tremendous service to companies, particularly small startups, who otherwise would be unable to afford or access the infrastructure necessary to turn ideas into prototypes, or bring successful models to scale.
FLARE has the capacity to handle proprietary and confidential R&D, and the ability to secure federal research investments and contract work with the state.
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering receives over $70 million in research grants including over $6 million in industrial support annually. Collaborative research opportunities with the college enable companies to work closely with faculty members to transform that research funding into industrially relevant technical knowledge through fundamental research and discovery. Industry partners also gain insight and access to the expertise in the college through faculty members who are advancing the frontiers of research and promoting technology innovation. The college is motivated to work with industry partners by establishing strong collaborations that dovetail into the company’s strategic priorities and plans.
