The purpose of the North Hall Prize is to recognize, honor and celebrate undergraduate research that uses North Hall Library resources and services.
The winning papers will be showcased on the library's web page, and the winners will be listed on the North Hall Library Prize's web page in perpetuity.
The prizes and certificates will be given to the winners at a public ceremony.
The competition is open to individually created papers of 5 or more pages written by a Mansfield undergraduate enrolled in one or both of the semesters during the eligibility period.
Papers submitted and graded during the calendar year (January–December) will be eligible for consideration. All entries must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on February 3 to be considered for the Prize.
Submitted entries must have been completed for a credit course and received a letter grade of A- or better.
The submitted paper must be based on some library research that will include usage of library print and electronic resources. In-text citations and a bibliography must be included in the paper in the appropriate citation style.
The faculty member who grades the paper must be willing to sign the submission form with supporting comments.
If the student is still enrolled at the University at the time of their selection, they must attend the award ceremony in order to receive the prize money.
The awards committee will consist of the library department chair and one faculty representative from each of the following areas: health and natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The Committee will use the following criteria for judging submissions:
