B.A. Political Science Degree

• Gain a comprehensive foundation in governmental structure, political dynamics, and international relations
• Acquire knowledge and skills to effectively participate in the political process
• Develop proficiency in the political theories that drive governmental decision making
• Cultivate and hone your skills in critical reasoning, research, decision-making, and oral and written communication
• Develop a thorough understanding of how governments are organized, how they effectively serve the people they govern, and how the theories, institutions, policies and procedures of government support or topple governments
• Receive an education that prepares you for a wide variety of career possibilities, including: law, public office, communications, lobbying work, campaign management, interest groups and associations, business, and non-profit organizations.

The political science program provides a broad and balanced introduction to the study of government and politics in both the U.S. and abroad. The goal is to provide both breadth and depth of knowledge and proficiency in the concepts, theories, and ideas about politics.

This program takes an explicitly interdisciplinary approach to educate students about the study of politics. All students in these courses are encouraged to become articulate, active, and informed citizens. The knowledge and skills nurtured in this program are widely applicable to further study in graduate school or law school and for the pursuit of careers in business, law, public administration, politics, teaching, journalism, communications, and research.
