Mansfield's Honors Program provides an opportunity for high-achieving students to take part in a unique educational experience during their studies at Mansfield. The program includes a 22-credit curriculum that fits within most General Education and Degree program requirements.
These courses include the following core principles of an Honors Education:
The curriculum culminates in a Senior Honors Project, in which students choose a topic of interest and work individually with a faculty mentor to complete their project. These projects are presented to the community at large, and students are encouraged to apply their findings to create real-world solutions within the university, local, or regional communities.
In addition to the curriculum, the Honors Program also includes extracurricular events, both educational and social. The majority of extracurricular activities are created, programmed, and executed by our Honors students, primarily through the Honors Association (a student government group) and the MOHBs (Mansfield Outstanding Honors Buddy system). All first-year students are assigned a MOHB, led by an upper-class Honors student (the MOHB Boss), which meets 8-10 times a semester. The MOHBs create social events, provide study skills workshops, registration advice, workshop student papers, and carry out service projects.
Honors students are also eligible for book awards, scholarships, internships with the University President, Honors trips, and the PASSHE Honors Summer Travel Course. For more information, please explore our website!
The Mansfield University Honors Program is a member of both the National Collegiate Honors Council and its regional organization, the Northeast Region Honors Council. Students regularly attend and present papers at both organizations' conferences, and are encouraged to run for and hold office in both groups.
Thanks to everyone who attended and assisted with the Fall Honors Meeting!
