Cyberspace is not necessarily a safe space, despite the perceived anonymity it offers.
Take some precautions to keep yourself safe.
-
Don't give out personal information to unknown people.
-
If someone is "cyber stalking" you (i.e. sending threatening emails, making inappropriate comments, etc.), report it right away. Stalking is never a game.
-
Never share your Social Security # with people! Identity theft is quickly becoming a large concern.
-
If you choose to meet someone in person that you've been communicating with online, make sure the meeting takes place in a public area. Don't be alone with someone who's unknown!
Crime Statistics
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires that all incidents that occur on campus or on property contiguous to campus be included in the
annual report.
