The Psychology Department has six full time active faculty members representing diverse areas of interest. When circumstances permit, adjunct or temporary faculty from the region supplement the departmental teaching staff. This assures that majors are exposed to a wide variety of interests and orientations, from humanistic to behavioral and from physiological to social. We encourage you to get to know our faculty members as a way of learning about the various specializations in psychology.
There is considerable latitude for you to choose from a wide selection of attractive electives and develop personal interests in the field of psychology. Some of the most exciting and innovative instructional programs on campus are occurring in psychology courses. Our faculty are continually experimenting with new techniques to more actively involve students in the learning process. The Mansfield University Undergraduate Course Catalog provides descriptions of the courses offered by the department and the current schedule of course offerings can be found on the Registrar page.
Faculty members consult frequently with other universities, non-academic agencies in mental health, medical hospitals, business, and state and federal government agencies. All of our faculty attend professional meetings and workshops. Consulting and continuing education keep us current in our areas of interest. Several of our faculty review papers for professional journals or publishers, and we are responsible for a dozen books over the past decade.
The department faculty meet regularly to discuss a wide range of issues relating to the psychology programs. Student input is often an important part of these meetings, and student representatives regularly participate in our meetings.
