The overall mission of the Student Activities Office in addition to actually producing extra-curricular programming for our students overall educational, entertainment and transformative learning benefit encompasses assisting, mentoring, advising, directing, guiding, and educating our students on a path to achieve student success. We encourage student service, engagement, volunteerism, and involvement, within all aspects of producing extra-curricular programming to include event research, planning, networking, collaboration, budgeting, advertising, promotion, technical, production, assessment, and of course event attendance. It’s our belief, backed by student development theory and practice, that students learn best through the process of doing and we offer seemingly endless opportunities and levels of activism for students to become engaged in events, activities, programs, clubs/organizations, and leadership roles fostering individual growth intellectually, socially, physically, culturally, and spiritually.
Each extra-curricular program by design and degree has learning outcomes attached that are both apparent and evident as well as intrinsically woven into the very fabric of the program that are invaluable and priceless in helping to mold and shape our students into becoming good citizens and role models for future generations built on the very foundation of the Mansfield University creed of Character, Scholarship, Culture, and Service.
Our mission, goals, objectives, learning outcomes, and learning reconsidered notions have been and continue to be shaped, refined, and defined by the academic research within the field of Higher Education Administration that shows a direct measureable correlation between a student’s active engagement in extra-curricular programming and student life and their overall student success both inside and outside the academic classroom.
Our departmental goal and objective
To continually increase the quality, quantity, and diversity of the extra-curricular programming produced by using alternative, innovative, and creative methods of doing more with less with a commitment to cost effectiveness and efficiency driven by research, networking, building connections/partnerships, and successfully handling and managing artist/event contract negotiations.
