The Master of Arts in Music/Choral Conducting Track provides students all the tools they will need to successfully lead any choral ensemble.
Mansfield's combination of outstanding faculty, numerous performance opportunities, scenic and beautiful location, and outstanding choral ensembles make it the perfect place to become an outstanding choral conductor!
The Master of Arts in Music Degree/Choral Conducting Track is designed to attract highly motivated choral conductors, who desire to further their education and professional careers through intensive study. The program provides masters degree candidates with experiences directly related to careers as choral conductors in the fields of music education, church music, or in preparation for further graduate study.
Students study a wide variety of choral literature from the Renaissance period through the 20th-century, including multicultural music and vocal jazz. They work directly with the top choral ensembles reviewing rehearsal techniques, warm-ups, vocal pedagogy, and score study. In addition to a curriculum tailored to choral conducting, the graduate assistant will gain experience outside the typical rehearsal through active participation in the preparation, organization, performance, and follow-up in many choral related activities.
Unlike most other graduate programs in choral conducting, the degree can be completed with a one-year residency and some study in the summer.
Mansfield University is looking for graduate students who are dynamic, self-directed, musically gifted, and eager to learn and experience all aspects of a music program. Potential graduate students should have a minimum of two years of professional experience (some exceptions may be granted depending on the candidates experience and ability) and possess an undergraduate degree in the field of music from an NASM accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
