Signing of an updated Memorandum of Understanding between UNESCO and the Inter-American Development Bank
The Director–General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding that will launch a new strategic partnership between the two organizations.
The Memorandum of Understanding provides a framework for the Organizations to work together in shared priority areas. It also represents an update of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1967 which mainly focused on cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training. Potential entry points for the new strategic partnership that are reflected in the updated Memorandum of Understanding include the following:
Education, including capacity development for the achievement of Education for All (EFA) goals
Information and communications technologies (ICTs) in education
Youth issues, including youth violence prevention
Science, including protection of biodiversity, natural disaster mitigation and risk preparedness, ethics of science and technology, science ethics education, and strengthening of national science and technology capacities
Protection and promotion of cultural and biological diversity, including through the promotion of multilingualism
Protection and safeguarding of cultural and natural heritage, including intangible cultural heritage
Development of cultural industries
