Students

Students who are taking a class that includes a service learning experience can find what they need to get started here. Students should follow any directions given to them by their professor or printed in their course syllabus. Students who are permitted to select their own service learning placement site can identify a site by using any of the links on the left hand side of the page. Students should then complete the following steps:

  1. Download and read the Community-based Learning Student Guide. The Community-based Learning Student Guide provides practical information to students who are participating in a service learning activity. Students should read the Service Learning Student Guide in its entirety prior to participating in any service learning activity. Topics include the following: topics to ask community partners, approaching the volunteer coordinator, your responsibilities as a service learner, the Quality Enhancement Plan office contact information and trouble shooting.
  2. Download, print and complete the Community-based Learning Enrollment Agreement form. The Community-based Learning Enrollment Agreement form serves as an agreement among the student, the faculty member and the community-based organization. The document outlines the responsibilities of each party and provides the framework for the service learning experience including the required number of hours to be served, personal learning objectives and course learning objectives. Because this document acts as both a photo release and as a liability waiver, a copy of the completed and signed enrollment form should be kept by the student, the faculty member, the community-based organization and the Quality Enhancement Plan office.
  3. Download, print and complete the Community-based Learning Time Sheet. The Community-based Learning Time Sheet is the official document that records actual hours served at a community-based organization. The time sheet should be completed each time a student provides service at a community-based organization. A copy of the final time sheet should be submitted to the Quality Enhancement Plan office at the end of the academic term.

Students who have questions about their service learning experience should call the Quality Enhancement Plan office at 678-891-2305. Students who have questions about the specific requirements of their assignment should refer first to their course syllabus, and, if they still have questions, they should contact their professor.
