Updates on Campus Improvement Projects
Updated October 21, 2013:
Main Hall Restroom Renovations - COMPLETED
Renovations on the second set of restrooms in Main Hall – 1st and 3rd floors – began on April 29. These restrooms will be closed during the renovations.
New campus signage is being added to some of the buildings and on the campus grounds shortly. Lighted Kent State Stark logo signs will be added to the exterior of Main Hall, Campus Center and Fine Arts. Temporary banners were hung recently on these buildings as a preview to what is to come. Kent State official “Gateway” signs have been constructed at the Frank Avenue & Boulevard entrance and at the corners of University and Frank and at University and Dressler Road. The remaining sign at the corner of University and Frank will be completed soon. This initiative is part of proposed streetscape projects outlined in the campus Conceptual Master Plan that was unveiled in 2012.
Fine Arts Building - COMPLETED
Beginning May 13 and through the summer sessions, the heating and air conditioning systems in Fine Arts will be improved necessitating the closing of certain portions of the building at times during construction activities.
Parking Lot Repaving - COMPLETED
Parking lots due for repaving this summer will include parking Lot #105 at The University Center and Lot #201 in front of the Fine Arts Building. Student Lot #104 will be seal coated and restriped this summer. All lots will be posted for closings in order to accomplish this work.
Tree Inventory - COMPLETED
The Campus Tree Advisory Committee has contracted with Davey Resource Group to complete the first Campus Tree Inventory this summer. The Inventory is the first step in long range plans for additional tree plantings and other improvements to the campus landscape and gardens over the coming years.
The Construction Document Phase for the new Sciences Building, led by the architectural firm of BHDP of Columbus, has now been completed. The bidding process is underway with the bids to be opened on October 30. The planned construction schedule for this new building is to be ready for Fall 2015 classes. A new website has been established to view renderings of what will be a LEED Gold Certified building upon completion.
