Using Panopto at Stark Campus

Panopto is a software that allows you to create and manage multimedia course materials, which can then be viewed online by your students, using the robust web browser-based Panopto viewer.  Panopto is only licensed for use for Stark Campus courses.

New Panopto Users                 ***For Faculty & Staff Only***

All Panopto accounts are set up through Blackboard integration.  This allows for automatic account creation and authentication as well as ease in linking to your Panopto videos in your courses.  You must have at least one Blackboard course configured for Panopto in order to use Panopto.  Please refer to the "Set Up Panopto for Blackboard Courses" information below.

Set Up Panopto for Blackboard Courses                 ***For Faculty & Staff Only***

Please follow these steps to set up Panopto for each Blackboard course.  You must do this for EACH COURSE EACH TERM.

  1. Submit a Panopto/Blackboard Learn Configuration Request form

The information in this form is sent to the Kent Blackboard administrators, who enable the Panopto building block for requested Blackboard courses.

This will create/manage accounts for you and your students through your Learn course.  It will also create a corresponding folder for your course on the Panopto server, where you can house your videos for student access.  Only students enrolled in your Learn course can access videos in your Panopto course folder.

: If you are requesting the Panopto building block for a combined course, the combined course will be configured for Panopto rather than the individual child sections. Please make sure the course sections are combined in Learn BEFORE submitting the Panopto/Blackboard request form ( Blackboard Course Combine Request Form).

  2. Optional: Add additional Panopto folders to your Blackboard course (beyond the default course folder)

Using a "Master" folder is recommended when you want to re-use videos from section to section or semester to semester.  To request "Master" course folders in Panopto, please email Katie Baer (

For videos geared toward a specific course section, please store those videos in the corresponding course folder in Panopto so that only students in that section can view them.

  3. Link to your Panopto videos directly from your Learn course

Providing links in your Blackboard course will allow students to view videos in any Panopto folders you have linked to the course without logging into a separate system.

  4. Optional: Create a Dropbox for student recordings

If you plan to have your students record videos using Panopto, you will need to create a Dropbox folder within your main Panopto course folder.  This will give students the "creator" rights needed to use the Panopto Focus Recorder and give them a place to upload their completed videos.
