Payroll Deduction

*Eligible USF employees who purchase their Annual permit via payroll deduction may have the option of paying those fees on a pre-tax basis.

Under a qualified parking fringe benefit program, payroll deductions related to qualified parking benefits are on a pre-tax basis and are not subject to withholding or federal income taxes and FICA (Social Security and Medicare). This reduction in taxable income would not affect your participation in the State of Florida Retirement plan, however, it may affect your maximum contribution to any other retirement plan and subsequent benefits including, Social Security and/or Medicare. If this is a concern, please contact your tax advisor for further information.

Please indicate whether you would like to have this deduction taken pre-tax or post-tax, and this option will be implemented as soon as the Payroll Department completes necessary programming.

By taking advantage of the ability to purchase your permit via payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis, you would save money since this deduction is not subject to Federal income and FICA taxes, similar to medical insurance premiums deducted pre-tax. The exact amount of savings realized would depend on your federal tax bracket and whether you are subject to full or partial FICA coverage.

No refunds will be issued on a pre-tax payroll deduction. It is the responsibility of the employee to contact Parking and Transportation Services if employment should end and to return their permit and pay any outstanding parking fee balances.

* Only those persons employed as faculty, A&P, or USPS are eligible for payroll deduction. Those not considered permanent employees, i.e., OPS, graduate assistants, visiting and adjunct professors are not eligible for payroll deduction. Only Annual Permits can be purchased through payroll deduction.
