Michael Kennedy, AS'00
As Michael Kennedy prepared for an opportunity of a lifetime, he could sense the gravity of the situation.
“It’s a very powerful feeling,” said Kennedy, who in April served as co-pilot on the oldest operational B-25 bomber on earth during a commemoration ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, OH. “You feel the rumble of the plane and you get this overwhelming sense of the history of the aircraft. It’s truly a dream come true.”
On April 18, 1942, 80 men departed an aircraft carrier on a top-secret mission over Japan. These men, led by Lt. Col. James H. “Jimmy” Doolittle, came to be known as the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders, and their mission turned the tide of World War II and provided a much-needed boost to American confidence.
