Scholarship Essay Writing Tips

In addition to minimum requirement criteria such as GPA and enrolled credit hours, essays are heavily weighted
in determining the award of any available scholarship. A well written, carefully constructed essay can very well be
the determining factor in awarding a scholarship.

If you are applying for more than one scholarship that requires an essay, you will need to write and submit a
separate, relevant essay for EACH scholarship. The following are some suggested "tips" in helping you to be
successful in receiving the scholarships for which you are applying:

• Create an essay that is well thought out
• Be sure your essay specifically addresses what is being asked
• Proofread before submitting your essay – misspelled words, grammatical errors and improper punctuation may cost you the scholarship

Have someone else review the essay – a second pair of eyes may find something you missed!
