The Faculty Senate of the City College of New York is the authentic voice of the faculty of the City College of New York. Presently it has 56 member senators elected from the various divisions and schools of the College. The senators elect an executive committee among themselves consisting of seven members at the end of each academic year. The Executive Committee then elects its chair that conducts the Senate meetings and day-to-day business relating to college governance. He also serves on the Review Committee of the College. The Senate meetings take place once a month. The Executive Committee of the Senate meets one week prior to the plenary session of the Senate and discusses various issues concerning the College. The Committee also drafts the agenda for the plenary session. All the plenary session meetings of the Faculty Senate are open to the public and are advertised on the college website one week prior to the plenary session.
As a Faculty Senate Chair, I welcome and invite each and every faculty member to actively participate in Senate proceedings. This is the place where all the administrators of the College, student leaders and faculty generally gather and are given an opportunity for an open exchange of ideas. The Senate also has eleven committees, which are the heart of its action. Each of these committees have seven members. You need not be a senator to become a member of these committee's. I specifically encourage the new and young faculty members to get engaged in the faculty senate operation and thus contribute your talent to the future of this great institution and self-growth.
With my best wishes,
