Welcome
Hi everyone! Welcome to my personal website. This is where I store miscellaneous information and things that I am working on. In case you couldn't tell from it being sprinkled everywhere you look on this webpage, my name is Chung Vuong.
I am a college student currently attending Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. I am studying Computer Science, which consumes a lot of time and energy (but is very rewarding and challenging! I recommend prospective CS students to go here, and check out Northeastern's program!), but in my free time (when I have it), I like to work on personal projects of various types, including Programs, Music, and Stories. You can find all of the work that I have made public under the "Projects" link in the navigation column. Check them out, and I hope you like them!
I'll say a few words here about the website design. Okay - so it's not the best looking website in the world, I know that. As nerdy as it was, I used to be really into web development when I was in Middle School because I ran Pokemon fansites and such...yeah, I know, not my proudest moments, but I was a lot better at graphics, HTML, and CSS coding back then. I just recently decided to try to learn it again because I have forgotten EVERYTHING.
This current design is my best attempt, but I do like the way it turned out. It's a very simple design using only a few DIV classes. I used GIMP editor to create the images (too poor for Photoshop). The header image, by the way, was originally a picture of my friend and I performing at an open mic show. That was the best picture of me I had, so that's why it's used in the header image!
I sort of improvised with the colors. The main idea of using a red palette came from trying to build a layout design out of the original photo of my friend and I singing, which was totally black except for us and the small glimpse of the red curtains behind us. The curtains in the back actually inspired the color scheme. I fooled around for a bit, and just built everything else up from there. I thought that the Chinese characters fit in real nicely with the whole theme, so I sort of emphasized the idea. In the header, the characters represent my full name in Chinese: (in pinyin) wang2 yi4 cong1. On the Home tab, the character jia1 means home in Chinese. The four characters at the bottom of the design mean Glorious Days, which is just the English Translation for one of my favorite Chinese songs. It is by the Hong Kong band, Beyond.
I made this a fixed-width layout because I like them better, and I really don't think anybody will be viewing my personal website on their mobile device anytime soon! All together, I spent about 5 hours planning, designing, and coding this layout.
So, that's a little bit about me and a little bit about the design of this website. Hope you find something on this site that is of interest to you! Thanks for stopping by!
