Matthew Goodwin

Professor Goodwin is an interdisciplinary faculty member affiliated with the College of Computer and Information Science and the Department of Health Sciences at Northeastern.
He is the co-PI and associate director of the first large-scale collaborative effort by computer and behavioral scientists addressing the early diagnosis and interventions for people with autism spectrum disorders, a research project supported by a National Science Foundation Award for Human Computer Interaction. He also has received a National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence Award for his research on autism spectrum disorder and its relationship to advanced technology.
Professor Goodwin previously served as the co-director and director of clinical research for the Autism and Communication Technology Initiative of the MIT Media Lab, where he was a member of the Cognitive Machines and Affective Computing groups and previously had been a postdoctoral fellow. Prior to joining the Northeastern faculty, he also was an adjunct associate research scientist in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University; an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island, where he earned his PhD in behavioral science; and associate director of research at the Groden Center in Providence.
